Learning your boarding history can be as interesting as the future of it's design. If you've never visited the California Surf Museum located in Oceanside, CA you will find that each lesson offered outweighs the $3 cover at the door.
One wall is completely dedicated to surf legends like Pete Peterson, Matt Kivlin, and George Freeth, the forgotten hero who introduced surfing to California. Alongside their biographies, you can appreciate their water vessels crafted from the early 1900's that laid the foundation of surfboard design. Other historical contributors such as Bruce Brown, Jeff Ho, and of course Tom Curren are also showcased.
What was equally impressive was the evolution of skateboard design which included several early models from Humco and Nash to modern day Powell Peralta. Masterful riders from the likes of Dogtown Z boy Tony Alva to mega skate star Tony Hawk, as well as many other icons in between, are honored for all to see. Check it out the next time your in town - www.surfmuseum.org.
