SurfScience.com is a new website designed to help surfers make the most of their time in the water. We met the guys from SurfScience a few months ago at the Sacred Craft expo and we have been eagerly awaiting the site. It's got some really cool features to help you understand different surfboards and how they are meant to be ridden and their surf tips section is filled with interviews from pro coaches from around the world. We had a chance to ask them about their site, here is what they said: BoardHunt: Hey guys, so what is the main goal of SurfScience and how does it help surfers? SurfScience: Our goal is to be the place to go when you have questions related to surfing. Our motto says it, Learn More. Surf Better. Basically, there is a more to surfboard design than the average surfer knows about and we think that by understanding the basics, it will help to take their surfing to the next level. In addition to shaping info, we are building out a tips section that is going to be filled with surfing tips for every level of surfing, straight from pros and top level coaches. BoardHunt: So how did you have the idea for the site? SurfScience: Basically we were getting frustrated with our surfing. We felt like we weren't getting better. We tried watching tips videos, we tried new boards, but it was really hard to find one place where there was all of the info we wanted to know. We had experience on the web so we decided that if there wasn't a good place with all of the info we wanted to know, we would get it ourselves and make it easy for other surfers to find. A few months later, SurfScience was born. BoardHunt: One of the cool features on your site is the surfboard directory, tell us about that? SurfScience: We have nearly 1,500 surfboards listed in our surfboard directory, all with specs, available fin and tail options, prices and in many cases a video of someone riding it. We let anyone rate the boards and write reviews so the available knowledge is constantly growing. The really cool part about our ratings is it is not a simple 1-5. We take into account speed, maneuverability, balance and paddling. Not every surfer can handle a super fast quad fin, some guys are just looking to get started and want a board with great balance to make it easier for them. BoardHunt: So what does the future hold for SurfScience? SurfScience: Well, we can't tell you too much, but there are some sweet ideas in the works. We are keeping in mind what kinds of things surfers want to know, which is pretty easy because we are all surfers. Every time we get frustrated or have a question we know we have a new feature in the works. We are working with some of the top surf coaches and board shapers right now on the next phase of the site. Hopefully we will see some of that by the end of the year or early next year. So its a pretty cool site and I think you can tell that its only going to get better. They asked us to do an interview with them to help their readers with buying new and used surfboards online, you can check it out here, How to buy your next used surfboard.
